DC Police Looking for Suspect Who Set Man on Fire in Nation’s Capital

Victim doused in flammable liquid and set ablaze while sitting at bus stop

Authorities in Washington D.C. say they are searching for a suspect who doused a man in flammable liquid and set him ablaze in broad daylight this week.

The horrifying incident unfolded just after 3 p.m. on Monday in the nation’s capital.

The suspect approached a man sitting at a bus stop at the intersection of North Capitol Street and P Street Northwest in Northwest D.C.

The suspect poured an accelerant on the victim, then lit him on fire before running away, authorities say.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) released a surveillance image of the suspect who appears to be carrying a jar of some kind.

D.C. Fire and EMS rushed the victim to a local hospital where he was treated for serious injuries.

Authorities are unclear about whether the victim and suspect were known to each other prior to the attack.

MPD is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.

Violent offenses in Washington D.C. rose by 39% last year, and they are already climbing higher in the opening days of 2024, according to MPD data.
