Capitol building CCTV footage shows Capitol Police Special Agent David Lazarus was not where he testified he was at key moments of the January 6 riot.
Newly-released Capitol footage from January 6, 2021 shows Capitol Police Special Agent David Lazarus gave false testimony in the Oath Keepers trial.
Lazarus, a member of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s security detail, testified that he passed by USCP Officer Harry Dunn confronting four Oath Keepers “three or four times” while he was evacuating staffers for Pelosi.
But the new footage of Lazarus appears to prove that he was lying.

From The Blaze:
Lazarus went on to explain that he observed Dunn “arguing” with rioters and that during that exchange, he eventually found an opening through the rioters and was able to rescue “11 or 12” of Pelosi’s staffers. During his sworn testimony, Lazarus went into great detail about the problems he had getting through the crowd of rioters gathered at the top of the stairwell where Dunn was having what became a much-publicized interchange with the Oath Keepers.
Lazarus explained that one rioter asked, “Who are you? Who are you?” Then, according to the trial transcript, he testified:
“And, you know, one attempted to — I had my lanyard on with my ID on it. And one — they were videotaping, and one attempted to pull at my ID. And I kind of, like, grabbed it back and looked, made sure it was still there. And then I saw an opening. So then I just kind of, like, walked fast to get into the office and then check on the staff again.”
Lazarus’ detailed description of what took place — what Lazarus described as “very antagonistic” in the “three or four times” he passed by — was a dramatic moment in the trial.
The outlet first reported on the discrepancies with Lazarus’ reporting in October 2023 but didn’t have permission to release full video clips.
The BlazeTV report breaks down Lazarus’ true whereabouts in the Capitol building in a detailed, minute-by-minute timeline using time-stamped video clips recorded on Capitol CCTV cameras released by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R).
Though Lazarus testified that he saw Dunn engaging with four Oath Keepers in an antagonistic manner, Lazarus “couldn’t have” seen Dunn with the Oath Keepers because the CCTV videos show Lazarus “was in another building a quarter of a mile away” at that time, Blaze reporter Steve Baker noted.
“This should rock the Capitol Police,” Baker said in the video. “We received messages from our sources at the [Department of Justice] in Washington that they were ‘terrified’ of this story.”
Lazarus’ testimony was a critical element considered for the conviction of Oath Keepers founder Stuart Rhodes, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison, and other Oath Keepers members.
“These lies, spread unquestioningly by the media and Democrat politicians, were used to put innocent people in prison, ruining their lives and the lives of their families,” The Blaze wrote in a post on X with the accompanying video.
“They and their attorneys did not have access to the footage at trial that Blaze Media is releasing today. Instead, Harry Dunn was made a hero by Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, and as a result of his and David Lazarus’s false testimony, there are innocent people in prison.”
