Mass Shooting at NYC Subway Station Leaves 1 Dead, 5 Wounded

Suspect opens fire on Big Apple subway platform packed with innocent bystanders, children

Police are searching for two suspects involved in a mass shooting at a subway station in New York City that left one dead and five injured, according to reports.

The bloody incident unfolded just after 4:30 p.m. on Monday in the Bronx.

Authorities believe a fight broke out aboard a train before spilling onto a platform at the Mount Eden stop on Jerome Avenue, CBS reports.

Suddenly, a suspect drew a firearm and discharged at least half a dozen rounds into the crowd, striking six people, including multiple teenagers and innocent bystanders.

“I heard gunshots, running, shooting, like, maybe, six times, five, six times. I heard two child screaming. And then, when I saw the train coming, that’s when I ran downstairs, because there was too many noise,” one witness said.

A 34-year-old man who was shot during the melee was later pronounced deceased at St. Barnabas Hospital.

Five more people who were wounded ranged in age from 14 to 71 years old. All were listed in stable condition at local hospitals, including a 29-year-old woman who was struck in the face and neck.

“As the train pulled into the Mount Eden station, the doors opened up and at least one of the individuals in that group or in the two groups took out a gun and fired shots, and more shots were fired while on the platform and that’s when and where our victims were shot,” explained NYPD Chief of Transit Michael Kemper.

NYPD has released surveillance images of two suspects and is requesting anyone with helpful information to contact them with guaranteed confidentiality.
