The new ‘auto theft prevention tactic’ is being widely criticized
With rising crime in Toronto, Canada, citizens and police are coming up with creative and sometimes ridiculous ways to deal with robberies.
A viral City News report described a nearly 25% rise in car thefts from 2022 to 2023, explaining police in one area have resorted to passing out doorstops to homeowners to help prevent their doors from being kicked in by criminals.

Toronto Police Service Constable Marco Ricciard appeared in the news segment to tell citizens they should leave their car key fobs their front door because criminals are “breaking into your home to steal your car. They don’t want anything else.”
“A lot of them that they’re arresting have guns on them and they’re not toy guns, they’re loaded,” the officer told the disarmed citizens.
People mocked the sad state of the Great White North on social media:
Welcome to @JustinTrudeau’s Canada.
Where guns are illegal. Except criminals have them, and you don’t.
And the police are imploring you to leave your keys at the front door so armed criminals can steal your cars, and hopefully spare your life.

Welcome to Canada. ?
Where guns are banned for law-abiding citizens, but criminals wield them freely.
Now, police are urging you to leave your keys at the door, hoping armed criminals will take your car and spare your life.
