Trump Distances Himself from Project 2025

Trump openly distanced himself from Project 2025 on his social-media network, Truth Social

Former President Donald Trump distanced himself from Project 2025, in a post on his social-media platform Truth Social.

“I know nothing about Project 2025,” he posted.

“I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”

Project 2025 is a series of policy proposals from the Heritage Foundation aimed at restructuring the federal government and executive branch. One of its proposals is to reclassify tens of thousands of federal civil service workers as political appointees, so they can be replaced with individuals who will better serve a new Republican president.

Other policies include taking partisan control over various departments of government including the Department of Justice and FBI, dismantling the Department of Homeland Security, introducing tax cuts and removing environmental and climate-change policies to foster domestic fossil-fuel production.

The Project is also explicitly Christian in its aims, proposing an end to abortion as healthcare and the criminalization of pornography.

The president of the Heritage Foundation, Kevin Roberts, has described its current role as “institutionalizing Trumpism.” The Foundation’s 920-page Mandate for Leadership, written by hundreds of conservatives, including former members of the Trump administration, was published in 2022.

Liberal critics believe the Project is an explicitly “Christian nationalist” plan to turn the United States into an autocracy.
