Former White House Communications Director for Biden apologizes after using loaded terminology in immediate aftermath of attempt on Trump’s life.
A CNN contributor who previously served as Joe Biden’s communications director had to stop and apologize after she used loaded terminology to discuss how Democrats should attack Trump following the attempt on his life.
Telling a CNN panel during RNC coverage Monday night that Democrats need to get behind Biden and collectively come after Trump, former White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield stopped mid-sentence after commenting they should “turn their fire” at the former president.
“He has said many, many times, after having been questioned many times about this, that he’s not stepping down and he’s going to be the nominee. So, at some point, Democrats have to decide that they want to try to win this election and turn their fire on Donald Trump,” Bedingfield said.
“I think there is… ‘I shouldn’t have said ‘turn their fire,’” she quickly added, apparently realizing the connotation of her words, as nervous laughter broke out among the panel.

“I apologize,” Bedingfield continued. “That was not the phrase that I meant. Uh, they need to turn their focus on Donald Trump.”
Bedingfield served as White House Communications Director for Biden from 2021 to 2023.
The faux pas comes as Democrats have pushed to “lower the temperature” of rhetoric following the assassination attempt, with shows like MSNBC’s Morning Joe temporarily taken off the air to avoid guests or hosts making lewd or inappropriate comments divulging their actual joy at Trump being shot.
