Biden to Expand Nuclear Weapon Arsenal in Europe, Russia to Reciprocate

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia will deploy intermediate range nuclear-capable missiles if the U.S. goes ahead with further short and medium range nuclear-capable missile deployments in Europe.

A letter from President Joe Biden to the Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and President of the Senate Kamala Harris, issued Monday, detailed an amendment to a 1958 agreement between the U.S. and the U.K. regarding nuclear arms cooperation.

Monday’s amendment to the 1958 agreement removed the expiration date for certain provisions of the original agreement so as to permit the transfer of certain nuclear-related equipment and material between the two countries, conceivably for potential use against Russia.

After detailing what the 1958 agreement permitted, the letter detailed what is now being expanded upon with the new amendment.

“The Amendment’s revisions to Article II(B) of the 1958 Agreement clarify that these same types of information may be exchanged related to atomic weapons, including special nuclear materials properties and production or processing technology, as is determined necessary to improve the recipient’s atomic weapon design, development, or fabrication capability,” the White House letter said.

Biden’s letter said that the U.S. will continue to assist the U.K. in maintaining a credible nuclear deterrent.

“Based on our steadfast partnership with the United Kingdom, and the United Kingdom’s continued commitment of nuclear forces to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), I have concluded it is in the national interest of the United States to continue to assist the United Kingdom in maintaining a credible nuclear deterrent, which will further improve our mutual defense posture and support our collective interests under NATO,” the White House letter said.

The letter detailed what the 1958 agreement originally allowed.

“…the 1958 Agreement provides for the exchange of atomic information and other related classified information, controlled unclassified information, technical data and technology subject to either Party’s export control requirements, sensitive nuclear technology, and controlled nuclear information, as is jointly determined to be necessary for the development of defense plans; the training of personnel in the employment of defense against atomic weapons; the evaluation of capabilities of potential enemies in the employment of atomic weapons and other military applications of atomic energy; the development of delivery systems compatible with atomic weapons; and the research, development, or design of military reactors,” the White House letter said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia will deploy intermediate range nuclear-capable missiles if the U.S. goes ahead with further short and medium range nuclear-capable missile deployments in Europe.

“‘If the United States carries out such plans, we will consider ourselves liberated from the unilateral moratorium previously adopted on the deployment of medium- and short-range strike capabilities,’ Putin said during a naval parade in St. Petersburg. ‘The development of a number of such systems is in the final stages,’ added Putin. ‘We will take mirror measures in deploying them, taking into account the actions of the U.S., its satellites in Europe, and in other regions of the world.’,” MSN reported Monday.

In June a Russian naval flotilla off the Florida coast sparked a U.S. naval response.

While initially announced in May 2023, the first F-16 fighter jets arrived in Ukraine Thursday. F-16’s can be equipped to carry nuclear weapons, although the ones sent to Ukraine are not reportedly so-equipped. Putin stated in May that Ukrainian F-16’s will be seen as a nuclear threat.

The Conservative Treehouse wrote about how this expanded nuclear cooperation amendment is the latest in a series of events that is potentially leading toward nuclear war.

“(1) Sanctions against Russia failed.  (2) NATO expanded, creating more provocation. (3) NATO pledged Ukraine NATO membership.  (4) Biden then pledged new long-range missiles will be located in Germany in 2026 able to reach all of Russia. (5) Russia sailed a nuclear submarine into Cuba; and (6) Yesterday, Vladimir Putin pledged to put nuclear weapons close to the USA (likely Cuba) if Biden puts long-range missiles in Germany,” The Conservative Treehouse said Monday.
