Christy and Judson Keen and their 7 children have been without electricity since July 8th.
The utility company here in Tennessee, Meriweather Lewis Electric Cooperative (MLEC), has turned off the Keen family’s electricity because they refused to have a smart meter installed on their property.

Other utilities in the state allow customers to opt-out of smart meters.
There is no valid reason for MLEC to refuse the Keen’s to opt-out.

The Keens are currently using gas-powered generators that allow them to operate their household appliances (freezers, etc) and farm equipment at two (2) hour increments, three (3) times a day. They need help with the gasoline expenditures. To lower their costs moving forward, they would like to purchase a tri-fuel generator that can run on natural gas, which is less expensive than gasoline or propane. A new generator costs approximately $1500.
Also, the Keens need a device called a “sine tamer” to condition the electricity coming to their home, as the fluctuations inherent in generator power are burning up their appliances. They’ve lost one freezer. Another freezer is making horrible sounds from the motor, as is their only ceiling fan. Who can afford to replace all their appliances?
