Bernie Sanders: Biden the ‘Most Progressive’ President ‘in Modern History’

…And that’s precisely why he’s the least popular president in 75 years, according to polls from liberal FiveThirtyEight.

Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) lauded Joe Biden as someone who “has put together the most progressive agenda and accomplishments of any president in modern history” in the wake of his exit from the 2024 race.

While discussing his lack of endorsing Kamala Harris for president during Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “All In,” Sanders said defeating former President Donald Trump at any cost is his top priority.

“I’m going to do everything I can to defeat Donald Trump, clearly the most dangerous president in our history, somebody who doesn’t believe in democracy, the right of women to control their own bodies. We don’t talk about it enough, this guy thinks climate change is a hoax in the midst of us experiencing the warmest day on Earth on record. So, he has got to be defeated,” Sanders said.

“What I have worried about, as you know, Ali, for a long time, is, it pains me, as somebody who comes from a working-class family, that, right now, a majority of working-class people support the Republicans, who could[n’t] care less about the needs of working families. And I think that has a lot to do with the fact that the Democratic Party has, over the decades, turned its back on working people. And I think an important exception to that is Joe Biden.”

Sanders went on effusively praising Biden’s record while pointing out that the Democratic Party going forward must focus on the forgotten working class.

“Joe has been the first President in American history to walk on a picket line, appointed a really strong secretary of labor, good people, National Labor Relations Board, and I think has put together the most progressive agenda and accomplishments of any president in modern history,” Sanders said.

“But what I hope we can do in this campaign is let the working class of this country, white and black and Latino, understand that we understand the pain that they are experiencing. We are looking at massive income and wealth inequality. Ali, the truth of the economy now, people on top are doing phenomenally well, 60% of our people are living paycheck-to-paycheck.”

“We talked about health care, our healthcare system is broken, dysfunctional,” he continued. “We’ve got half of our elderly people trying to get by on 30,000 or less. We have a childcare system, totally broken. We have got to start paying attention to the needs of the working class of this country and stand up to powerful special interests, who have enormous power, not only in the Republican Party, but I have to say, in the Democratic Party, as well.”

What the Vermont senator doesn’t mention is Biden, the “most progressive” president “in modern history”, is polling as the least popular president in at least the last 75 years, according to liberal pollster Five Thirty Eight.

Why exactly is that? Former Trump economic adviser Stephen Moore explains:

It’s hard to point to a single policy that he got right. On the economy he was catastrophically bad. The trillions of dollars of debt he rang up bought nothing. He sent inflation to the highest levels in almost 40 years. The average family lost $2,000 of income after inflation during his reign. Test scores fell. More people died of Covid during his presidency than in President Trump’s — despite the availability of the vaccine.

Interest rates rose. Home ownership became a pipe dream for young people. Homeowners faced mortgage payments that doubled. Mr. Biden declared war on American energy. He put America back into the corrupt Paris Climate Accords. The rest of the world went on using more fossil fuels than ever. By impeding American oil and gas production, and pipelines, he played into the hands of our enemies — Communist China and Iran.

Gas prices rose. Small business confidence sagged. Two-thirds of Americans consistently told pollsters that the economy was “fair” or “poor.” Poverty rates rose.

Even the one statistic that Mr. Biden boasts about — job creation — is a mirage. Most of the jobs were government or health care jobs. With the government borrowing $2 trillion a year, there is no reason the government should be hiring more laborers.

Then there was the sheer incompetence. The bungled Afghanistan withdrawal was a national security disaster. The border became a broken dam, with some 10 million illegals flowing into the country. The government spent $7 billion to build electric vehicles, and only a handful got built.

Looks like Sanders is right — Biden really is the most “progressive” president in modern history!

And now by dropping out the race over his perceived inability to beat Trump in November, Biden is also a lame duck president with 6 months still left in office.

Sanders had encouraged Biden to stay in the race, and he spoke with Biden and his handlers in recent weeks to help him outline a plan for the first 100 days of his second term.

Meanwhile, Sanders signaled his support for Harris without giving her a full-fledged endorsement.

“The vice president is the Democratic nominee, and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure she’s the president, but I think for her to become president, she’s going to have to be talking about issues that impact the 60 percent of Americans, working people who are living paycheck to paycheck,” Sanders told The Hill.
