Burglars Shot by Homeowner During Home Invasion, One Dies — Police Apprehend Homeowner

Three would-be thieves reportedly broke into resident’s home at 5 A.M. Saturday before being confronted by homeowner.

A male homeowner in Los Angeles, California, who used a firearm to defend his home against armed thieves attempting to burglarize his residence was detained and could face charges.

Three would-be thieves reportedly broke into the man’s home at 5 A.M. Saturday before being confronted by the homeowner.

During the botched robbery attempt on the home where a grandmother and toddler were present, the homeowner shot two of the thieves, killing one as the other two fled, one of them leaving behind a blood trail that led to a getaway vehicle.

“The officers’ preliminary investigation determined that approximately three to four armed males in their 20s entered the home with the intent to burglarize the location,” LAPD wrote on X on Saturday. “A suspect pointed a weapon at the victim and while the suspects were inside the residence, the victim produced a firearm and a shooting occurred.”

LAPD Valley Bureau Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said a Saturday morning press conference explained that “During that burglary, multiple rounds were fired by the homeowner and the homeowner struck one of the burglary suspects.”

The robbery suspect who died at the scene was later identified as 20-year-old Inglewood man Abednego Adre.

CBS News reports the homeowner’s fate is in the hands of the city’s liberal Soros-funded district attorney, George Gascón:

As to the homeowner who shot the would-be burglar, Hamilton said once police have concluded their investigation and submitted their report, it will be up to the District Attorney’s Office to make the ultimate determination if criminal charges will be filed or not against the homeowner.

Acknowledging the high humber of burglaries in the area, Hamilton stressed, however, that “Anyone inside their residence that is faced with a deadly threat and is perceived as a deadly threat has the right to protect themselves.”

One neighbor interviewed by local media praised the homeowner for taking matters into his own hands to address the scourge of robberies.

“The suspects messed with the wrong homeowner,” the anonymous neighbor told KTLA. “So hopefully this will stop them. It makes me feel good that people are able to protect their homes and stop these guys.”

“We’ve been having burglaries every day in this neighborhood,” another neighbor stated. “So I’m not surprised at all. It’s been a real problem. Residents here are fed up.”

Deputy Chief Hamilton said police had recovered a black BMW sedan believed to be the getaway vehicle and that the suspects may be the ones responsible for the string of burgalries in the area.
