Trump spared assassin’s bullet only because he slightly turned his head.
CNN anchor Jim Acosta accused former President Trump of being “wildly irresponsible” for claiming the Secret Service didn’t protect him when he was shot at a rally on July 13.
Trump in a Truth Social post Tuesday said, “The Biden/Harris Administration did not properly protect me, and I was forced to take a bullet for Democracy. IT WAS MY GREAT HONOR TO DO SO!”
Acosta was not happy with Trump’s statement and defended the Secret Service as a “professional operation.”
“Perhaps he’s not aware the director [Kimberly Cheatle] has stepped down, but that’s what he’s saying,” Acosta said.
“I mean, obviously the Secret Service is a professional operation. To say something like ‘they did not protect me’, it just sounds wildly irresponsible,” Acosta told former Secret Service agent Jonathon Wackrow.
Jim Acosta on Trump saying the Secret Service did not protect him after he was shot:
Acosta: The Secret Service is a professional operation…to say something like ‘they did not protect me’ it just sounds just wildly irresponsible.
Wackrow: …not the reality of the situation… pic.twitter.com/O2pmbs7MTT— Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) July 23, 2024
Wackrow responded that Trump was “just capitalizing on the moment” and viewing the situation “through the color of politics.”
“It’s not the reality of the situation,” he added.
It was, in fact, the reality of the situation: Trump only survived a would-be assassin’s bullet because he slightly turned his head, not because the Secret Service prevented the shooting in the first place.
This is unbelievable. It wasn’t just that a single shot missed Trump. But the turn of his head at the exact right moment, avoids three different bullets in a matter of less than a second. #trump pic.twitter.com/EHEUHQLTJL

The Secret Service managed to neutralize the shooter only after he had taken the opportunity to fire several rounds at Trump.
This is a great simulation of the 7 shots the shooter got off, and it fits with the angle of attack. I believe this to be true. Except for the part where the shooter’s intentions were primarily to commit a mass shooting.
No, that was secondary at best. He went for Trump. pic.twitter.com/Qt7UKbSsb2

In fact, it was revealed that the Secret Service’s failure to protect Trump was the result of numerous security lapses, including failing to spot shooter Thomas Crooks on the roof of a building less than 200 yards away from the former president.
Multiple eyewitnesses attending the rally also repeatedly warned authorities about Crooks’ suspicious behavior leading up to the shooting but were ignored.
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who resigned Tuesday following an intense grilling on Capitol Hill, admitted the agency failing to prevent Trump from getting shot was “the most significant operational failure of the Secret Service in decades.”
But according to Acosta, the Secret Service did a bang-up job!
In reality, it’s the Secret Service that’s “wildly irresponsible” for allowing a former president to be shot in the head.
