A Democrat donor worried about bumbling Joe Biden being the presidential nominee says the party needs to “grow a spine” and openly debate his mental fitness, or lack thereof.
Donor Maggie Kulyk expressed to CNN that she’s lost confidence in Biden leading the ticket, after several public appearances failed to alleviate concerns the president is mentally and physically fit to serve another four years.
“I think that it takes courage to come out publicly, and unfortunately all of Washington lacks courage,” donor Kulyk told CNN host Sara Sidner on Friday, adding, “I mean, frankly.”

Kulyk went on to insist Democrats “grow a spine” and swap Biden out before it’s too late.
“Unfortunately, I don’t think Joe Biden can do it,” Kulyk told CNN.
“And that’s what’s so very, very concerning to me. So whoever comes out publicly or doesn’t come out publicly, at this stage of the game, that’s a little too late. We need to move forward and I think people need to, as I put it in an article, grow a spine and say what they’re really believing,” she said, adding she agreed with an article by Democrat strategist James Carville urging the party to “move forward.”
The donor’s reaction came as all eyes were on Biden during a “Big Boy” NATO press conference Thursday, where he exacerbated concerns over his mental fitness with several gaffes.
Biden is currently facing opposition from his own party to stay in the race, with 18 House Democrats calling for Biden to leave the race, while notable Obama surrogates such as David Axelrod and George Clooney have expressed similar sentiments.
Kulyk’s comments also come as big money mega-donors said on Friday they’ll withhold $90 million in funding unless he bows out.
