Flashback: Tim Walz Bailed on 2022 Debate

After agreeing to debate JD Vance, Walz’s refusal to show up to a prior debate comes back to haunt him.

Dr. Scott Jensen, a former opponent of Democrat Tim Walz, is warning Donald Trump running mate JD Vance that the Minnesota Governor could bail on an upcoming debate since that same thing happened to him.

On Oct. 23, 2022, Jensen stood on stage beside an empty podium after Walz, the incumbent, refused to show up to a gubernatorial debate hosted by St. Paul ABC affiliate KSTP.

“Be careful, Tim Walz knows a thing or two about not showing up to debates,” Jensen wrote on X Thursday after Walz accepted an invitation to debate on Oct. 1.

The Minnesota governor had previously debated Jensen twice, agreeing to the second debate only after requesting no audience and ensuring it wouldn’t be aired in the Twin Cities metro area by local media outlet KTTC.

Why did @GovTimWalz and the @MinnesotaDFL refuse to debate with @drscottjensen if the media televised it in the Twin Cities metro area?

Why did they refuse to allow an audience, instead, opting to have it in a small studio room?

However, just days later, Walz skipped out on a third planned debate.

“Absent on the debate stage. Absent as governor. Tim Walz has hurt Minnesota,” Jensen wrote on X, calling Walz out following the incident.

Now we know why Tim Walz refuses to debate @drscottjensen at the state fair. Walz Failed! pic.twitter.com/OThpZmNnVu

Instead of debating Walz, Jensen went on to debate — the media.

When asked by the media why Walz was skipping debates, video shows a local news feed cut as Jensen attempted to explain the governor was perpetrating a scam on Minnesotans by requesting an Oct. 28 debate when over 50% of voters had already cast their ballots in early voting.

Everyone keeps asking “How did this Tim Walz guy even get elected.”

Let me explain:

The Democrats own the local media here in Minnesota. Watch as @drscottjensen is killing this interview and right as Jensen calls out the media for carrying water for Walz.

While Walz and Vance have agreed to square off on October 1st in New York City, Vance is also taking the opportunity to challenge his opponent to additional debates, arguing the American people deserve to “see us discuss our views.”

🚨🇺🇸J.D. VANCE: I WANT TO DEBATE WALZ MORE THAN ONCE

“I actually think we should do more than one debate.

So hopefully we’re going to see him on October 1st, but hopefully we’re going to see him either before or after that, because I think it’s important for the American people… https://t.co/9SPlYH7tEE pic.twitter.com/BKXmvbeYhZ
