Suspect held girl down while her granddaughter punched her, police chief says
A woman was arrested for allegedly participating in the beating of a student alongside her granddaughter at an elementary school in Michigan this week, according to reports.
The shocking incident unfolded on Thursday in Mt. Morris Township, located in the Flint urban area.
The suspect was reportedly escorting her granddaughter to a behavioral meeting at McMonagle Elementary School when the alleged attack took place.
Police Chief Michael Veach told WNEM the pair had just been buzzed into the building when “the grandmother saw another girl her granddaughter was having trouble with, so she and her granddaughter followed her into a bathroom.”
The grandmother held the victim down while her granddaughter punched her, according to Veach.
The adult suspect was arrested and booked into Genesee County Jail but no information about her has been released.
“On Thursday, April 18 an unfortunate incident transpired at McMonagle Elementary School involving a grandparent of a student who managed to circumvent security protocols and gain unauthorized access to the school premises,” Jamal Bransford, Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator of Westwood Heights Schools, explained in a statement.
“The Mt. Morris Township Police Department immediately investigated this incident. It is crucial to emphasize that no other children in the school were involved or harmed during this incident.”
It is unclear what charges the suspect may face.
