‘Grins & Glocks’: Orthodontist Promo Offering Free Gun with Invisalign Treatment Sparks Controversy

Anti-gun lunatics decry promo as ‘insane.’

An orthodontist in North Carolina is under fire over a promotion giving free Glock pistols to patients who received Invisalign teeth-straightening services.

“Sign up for Invisalign treatment at Gladwell Orthodontics in Wake Forest on November 8th or in Raleigh on November 9th and receive a FREE Glock 19 or a VGC Silver Membership,” reads the ad for the “Grins and Glocks” promo.

The Glock 19 retails for around $529, while Invisalign treatments can cost up to $3,000.

According to Dr. Jason Gladwell, who owns the business, the ad was taken out of context, as it was only sent to members of the Youngsville Gun Club and Range customer mailing list.

“This was not a general blanket advertisement that we sent out to every orthodontic or potential orthodontic patient in the state,” the orthodontist explained to WNCN.

Customers who took advantage of the promo received a coupon to take to a local gun range where they picked up the pistol.

“It’s not like you’re going in, you’re buying Invisalign and you’re walking out with a gun. It’s nothing like that,” commented Youngsville Gun Club and Range owner Kurt Lieberman. “They come in. They have to be 21 years old because it’s a pistol, and then they have to pass a background check, which we do on-site.”

Lieberman says new gun owners are then offered free training and paid classes.

“Our goal is to not only sell you a firearm, but also to help you understand and get you up to speed so that you are handling it safely, shooting it safely,” he said.

While measures were taken to ensure customers’ safety, the promo was still the target of ire by anti-gun advocates who criticized the dissemination of free firearms.

WNCN reports: “A viewer, who did not want to be named, raised concern about the promotion in an email to Nexstar’s WNCN, calling the promotion ‘insane.’”

Rev. Dr. Jennifer Copeland, an ordained minister in The United Methodist Church and the Executive Director of the NC Council of Churches, whose pronouns are listed in her bio, also told CNN Newsroom the promotion presented a troubling paradox.

“It’s mind blowing to me that an organization that I think of as trying to provide health care to the people in the community is partnering their health care with gun death,” said Copeland.

Following news of the promo, the company that makes Invisalign, Align Technology, also released a statement condemning and distancing itself from the offer:

Align Technology, the makers of Invisalign® brand clear aligners, recently learned of a customer’s promotional advertisement that offers a free handgun or gun range membership to qualified new patients who begin Invisalign treatment. Invisalign trained doctors are independent practices and Align was not involved in the development or approval of this promotion by the dental practice, and only learned of it after the fact. For more than 25 years, Align has been helping doctors transform smiles and change lives through healthy beautiful smiles using Invisalign aligners, and this promotion does not reflect our brand purpose.

The pro-Second Amendment offer comes as a roofing company in Florida is also taking fire over a Thanksgiving promotion offering a free AR-15 and turkey with the purchase of a new roof.
