A Democrat running for office in Texas, who was worked for Joe Biden, was arrested last week for allegedly fabricating racist social media messages attacking himself.
Texas Rangers reportedly took Taral Patel, 30, into custody last Wednesday after his Republican opponent in the race for Fort Bend County commissioner, Andy Meyers, launched an investigation into social media messages Patel claimed were from Meyers’ supporters.
The investigation began last October, just weeks after Patel made a Facebook post claiming he and his family were victims of vicious hateful messages directed at him by Republicans.
Some of the online abuse hurled at Patel included messages denouncing people who support “monkey and elephant.”
Patel’s Republican opponent was a guy named Andy Meyers, so he used the fake account to post the most racist thing he could think of to (1) make it seem like Meyers supporters were all racist and (2) make Meyers seem racist

“Was he even born here? Probably communist,” a fake message allegedly written by Patel to himself stated.
In his post, Patel blamed MAGA supporters for the messages, writing, “These hateful images (a small sample attached here) are from a place of deep and misguided fear – incited by people like former President Donald Trump and today’s extremist Republican party fear that immigrants are ‘taking their jobs’ and setting out to hurt our own communities.”
Meyers reportedly notified the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s office after he noticed one of the messages posted by Patel was by a person named “Antonio Scalywag,” an account using a fake photo who he’d previously encountered online.
When the DA’s office reached out to Facebook for info on the user, they reportedly obtained data linking to Patel’s contact information.
The Democrat faces charges of felony online impersonation and misdemeanor misrepresentation of identity.
The arrest forced Fort Bend County Judge KP George, Patel’s former boss, to issue a comment distancing himself from the situation, writing,
“As a public official, I address the recent events involving a former employee with a deep sense of concern. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, I emphasize the vital importance of upholding the principles of due process and impartial investigation. I trust that this matter will be examined without prejudice. While awaiting additional information, I reaffirm my commitment to ensuring justice and accountability. I look forward to gaining a complete understanding of the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.”
The Fort Bend County GOP issued a statement slamming Patel for disingenuously attempting to misrepresent them and comparing the incident to disgraced actor Jussie Smollett’s infamous hate hoax.

“The recent arrest of KP George’s right-hand man and former chief of staff, Tarel Patel, is deeply concerning,” the Fort Bend County GOP chair Bobby Eberle wrote. “Patel garnered widespread news coverage (like his former boss) for claiming that racist social media posts were made against him. Now, based on the arrest warrant and much like Jussie Smollett, it appears that Patel used a fake Facebook account to send racist messages to himself and then blamed his political opponents.”
“The constant use of the race card by the Democrats shows a deep disrespect for the resident of Fort Bend County,” he wrote.

Patel’s campaign site also claims he was previously “Appointed by President Joseph R. Biden to serve in his Administration as a Liaison for the White House,” and says he “Served as a Law Clerk for the Department of Justice Criminal Division in the Public Integrity Section.”
ABC 13 reports: “Patel’s bond was set at $20,000 for the felony and $2,500 for the misdemeanor. He bonded out of the Fort Bend County Jail early Thursday morning. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 22.”
