Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon have reached boiling point
Israel will face an “obliterating war” if it embarks on “full-scale military aggression” against Hezbollah in Lebanon, Iran’s Permanent Mission to the UN warned on Friday.
The announcement was made on Twitter.
“Albeit Iran deems as psychological warfare the Zionist regime’s propaganda about intending to attack Lebanon, should it embark on full-scale military aggression, an obliterating war will ensue. All options, incl. the full involvement of all Resistance Fronts, are on the table,” the post reads.
By “all Resistance Fronts,” Iran means not just Hezbollah and Hamas, but also the Houthi rebels in Yemen as well as other groups in Syria and Iraq.
The warning comes as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon are rising. Israel attacked a number of Hezbollah positions on Friday in response to an attack against northern Israel.
A US official told Politico on Thursday that the risk of war between Israel and Lebanon is higher than it has been for weeks. The official said that a major attack by either side could provoke a war, with “little notice.”
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah recently said that “no place” in Israel would avoid attacks if war were to break out, and that the group would fight with “no rules” and “no ceilings.” He also threatened Cyprus, which has allowed Israel to use its territory for military exercises, and appeared to suggest Hezbollah would also target Israel’s offshore oilrigs.
Nasrallah made clear that his group would continue to support Hamas against Israel.
“We will continue to support Gaza and we are ready for anything. We are not afraid,” said Nasrallah.
“Our demand is clear: A complete and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.”
In April, Iran launched an unprecedented missile and drone attack directly on Israel, two weeks after Israel killed several senior officers of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Damascus, Syria.
There were no deaths and just a single injury as a result of the Iranian attack.
