Biden Suffered From 2 Near-Fatal Aneurysms in 1988 & Was Almost Given Last Rites

Are Biden’s gaffes a consequence of his aneurysm?

President Joe Biden suffered two aneurysms in the late 1980s that almost ended his life, according to a report by the Washington Post (WaPo).

According to the Jeff Bezos-owned news outlet, the first aneurysm happened to Biden in February 1988 when he was 45 years old. It had been misdiagnosed as a pinched nerve, with the then-U.S. senator for Delaware taking at least 10 acetaminophen tablets a day to provide at least a modicum of pain relief.

However, doctors discovered the dangerous warping of a blood vessel; had it burst, it would have likely been fatal. Biden then underwent an emergency surgery to correct the condition and address its potentially deadly consequences.

This severe February 1988 aneurysm stemmed from the initial misdiagnosis. Biden’s refusal to seek immediate medical attention even as the pain in his neck became unbearable also made things worse. WaPo reported that a Catholic priest was even called in to administer the Last Rites to him.

Citing an account by the president’s sister Valerie Biden Owens, WaPo recounted that Jill Biden intervened and prevented the priest from giving the U.S. senator the Viaticum.

“Jill Biden, who had been ordered to stay out of the room, burst in, yelling at [the priest] to leave. ‘You’re not giving him the Last Rites. He’s not going to die,’ she said,” according to WaPo.

Doctors pushed through with the risky surgery, which ultimately saved Biden’s life. But the then-senator wasn’t out of the water yet, as he suffered a pulmonary embolism while in recovery. The National Pulse explains that a pulmonary embolism is “sudden blockage of arteries that brings blood to the lungs.”

Biden did recover from this embolism, but the earlier aneurysm was followed by a second one found in May 1988, which again required surgery. The senator recovered from this second surgery and eventually made his way to the White House – spending eight years as vice president before being elected as chief executive in the rigged 2020 elections.

Are Biden’s gaffes a consequence of his aneurysm?

“An aneurysm is a warping in a blood vessel, commonly as a bulge or bubble. Aneurysms can fill with blood and subsequently rupture. When ruptured, aneurysms are fatal in about 50 percent of cases,” the Pulse continued.

“Even among those who survive, two-thirds will suffer long-term neurological damage. Aneurysms can be genetic and continue to appear in a patient over time. At 81 years old, Biden’s history of aneurysms may raise additional concerns about the closely guarded state of his health.”

In February, the Pulse reported how Biden refused to take a cognitive test during his annual physical examination at the time. “I’m squared away, they say I look too young,” he told reporters at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland where he had his physical exam.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also confirmed that Biden didn’t undergo a cognitive test during his physical exam, arguing that he “doesn’t need one.” Former President Donald Trump has poked fun at Biden’s failing cognitive function – as evidenced by the incumbent’s various verbal gaffes – in multiple instances.

She also declined to make Biden’s physician available for questioning by reporters, contending that it’s not the standard practice. According to the Pulse, “This deviates from the usual protocol during the Trump administration, when the former president’s physician was subjected to extensive questioning.”
