Eerie prediction comes amid “enduring threat level” of open borders, regional wars, economic strife and hyper-polarized political divisions.
America may face an unprecedented “Black Swan event” in 2024 — a national security crisis with unpredictable high impact, CBS News’ investigative reporter Catherine Herridge predicted on Sunday.
During a “Face the Nation” roundtable discussion, host Margaret Brennan asked the participants their predictions about 2024.
“Well, mine’s a little dark,” Herridge began. “I just feel a lot of concern that 2024 may be the year of a black swan event. This is a national security event with high impact that’s very hard to predict.”

A “black swan event“, a term popularized by Nassim Nicholas Taleb in his 2007 book The Black Swan, refers to an unpredictable or unforeseen event with extreme consequences.
Herridge explained that regional conflicts in Ukraine and Israel and the hyper-polarized political environment have created “fertile ground” for America’s adversaries to strike.
“There are a number of concerns- concerns, I have that factor into that,” she went on. “Not only this sort of enduring, heightened threat level that we’re facing, the wars in Israel, also Ukraine.”
“And we’re so divided in this country in ways that we haven’t seen before. And I think that just creates fertile ground for our adversaries like North Korea, China and Iran. And that’s what concerns me most,” Herridge added.
Brennan agreed with her assessment, saying, “A lot of people are up at night with that concern, Catherine. At least in this town.”
When factoring in Joe Biden’s collapsed U.S. southern border that’s allowing millions of unidentified people from around the world to stream into the country unchecked, the likelihood of a “black swan event” seems all the more likely.
Hundreds of migrants who’ve illegally crossed into the U.S. are on the terrorist watchlist.
And domestic airlines are now expediting illegal migrants to be flown anywhere in the country without a passport or even identification.
Upcoming films such as “Civil War” and “Leave the World Behind” –produced by former President Barack Obama — also eerily predict major civil unrest due to political and racial divisions and cyberattacks.
